First and foremost, we are not mixologists and do not work in the bar
industry. We are just having
a lot of fun at home learning about the old and the new – ingredients,
techniques, recipes, flavours, glassware and barware.
Our inspiration comes from many places - bars and restaurants we visit,
recipes we read, and food we eat, both savoury and sweet.
We have found that what we do like in all the drinks we make are good
quality ingredients and great flavour combinations, beautifully presented with
love and care. We like to
think that our home crafted drinks are as exciting and tasty as anything you’ll
get in the best cocktail bars around the world!
Every Friday night we celebrate the weekend with a different cocktail. We share our recipes with you for all
our cocktails, homemade ingredients to make superior cocktails, and also canapés
to help soak up the booze!
My cocktails vary depending on the weather, what’s seasonal, what we find
that’s interesting and new, or simply just what we’re into at the time. My current favourites are a classic
Sazerac, an Aviation with homemade maraschino cherries, and a Salted Caramel
Martini with jersey cream and vanilla salt.
Merv is more specific in his tastes, and contributes additional savoury
cocktails to our Friday nights.
His favourite drinks at the moment are a Mustardy (Bloody) Mary, a black
pepper infused Vodka Gibson, and a savoury Michelada. Any drink made by Merv usually features highly in salty,
spicy, umami flavours. Although he
is yet to perfect a Marmitini…
Of course, no home bar is complete without some lovely glasses to enhance
your drinks in, sensible bar accessories for a sense of occasion and giddier
drinks novelties for retro Tiki fun!
We share the best barware - what we have or what we’re coveting right
now.
I hope you enjoy our blog and join us for a drink or two!
Love Myrtle xxx
